Fishing Permits for Loch of Blairs Fishery

Loch of Blairs fishery is operated by the community-based charity, Friends of Blairs Loch (SC048921) (FoBL). We are a “not for profit” organisation and 100% of income from the fishery is reinvested in making Loch of Blairs and its surrounding environs a special place for visitors.

The loch is a beautiful location but we do wish our angling friends to understand that we are still working to improve the water conditions. There is a lot of sub-surface aquatic weed that can make fishing challenging and the use of dry and shallow sunk flies is recommended.

Our boat hire rate is £25 per session. The timing of sessions are as follows:

Early : sunrise till 1.00pm

Late : 1.30pm till sunset

Fishing after dark is strictly prohibited.

Angling activities are undertaken at the permit holder’s own risk and no liability is accepted by FoBL. Adherence to the following permit conditions is mandatory and non-compliance may result in immediate cessation of the issued permit, without refund of payment, and refusal of future requests for access to the loch. Please note that the boathouse and surrounding area are monitored by CCTV.

Conditions of permit:

  • Fishing from boat only.
  • Fishing is on a “Catch & Release” only basis.
  • Fly fishing only (no floats or bite indicators are permitted).
  • All flies used must be single hook and barbless.
  • Fishing after dark is not permitted.
  • The hirer of the boat must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Maximum of 3 people in the boat. (Children younger than 5yo must not be taken in the boat)
  • Maximum of 2 rods may be fished.
  • Buoyancy aids are provided for use and strongly recommended. Non-use of the buoyancy aids is purely at angler’s own risk.
  • The use of drogues and in-boat fishing benches are purely at angler’s risk.
  • The boat and oars are regularly check by FoBL volunteers. Hirers must inspect the boat & oars prior to use and note any faults in the fishing logbook.
  • Electric outboard motors are permitted. Petrol outboard motors are not permitted. Please note that areas of the loch are shallow and have sub-surface weed growth which is likely to snag on the propellor of outboard motors. FoBL accept no liability for damage to any outboard motors used.

FoBL require confirmation by email that these conditions have been read and understood prior to the issue of a permit to fish.
